The Winter Solstice Festival, or Dongzhi Festival, is one of the most important celebrations in Chinese culture. Held on the shortest day of the year, it marks the arrival of winter and the rebirth of the sun. In ancient times, it was believed that after the Winter Solstice, daylight hours would gradually increase, bringing hope and new beginnings.
Today, families gather to eat tangyuan, glutinous rice balls that symbolize reunion and togetherness.

The festival also has roots in Chinese medicine, with some traditions encouraging the consumption of warm, nourishing foods to promote health during the cold season. From its cultural significance to its delicious cuisine, the Winter Solstice Festival is a treasured tradition in China and beyond.
